Day 4: The Dentelles de Montmirail:

No visit to the Vaucluse is complete without visiting the Dentelles de Montmirail. The Dentelles are short, steep mountains with a distinctive rocky ridge, extending west from the Ventoux Mountains. These jagged, rocky tops are aptly named after the lace it’s thought to resemble. The mountains form a circle at the southwest end, along Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise, and extend northeast to Malaucene with an additional range to the north to Vaison-la-Romaine. Nestled by the Dentelles are the Cru villages Gigondas and Vacqueyras and the excellent wine Villages of Sablet, Seguret, and Beaumes-de-Venise. We will compare and contrast the great Cote du Rhone wines of these villages, buy as many bottles as we can carry back home, have lunch, and finally hike one of the many Dentelles trails.
